Jo Long Sports Therapy

Many people have never heard of Sports Therapy nor what it entails. Despite its title, Sports Therapy does not just hold potential benefits for sports people but it can provide relief from pain and lack of mobility for everyone. It combines a number of recognised hands-on soft tissue techniques, stretching and exercise plans to assist in the prevention and rehabilitation of injuries and pain. These symptoms can be caused by day-to-day occupational activities, immobility or through sports.

Types of Injuries

Injuries normally fall into one of two categories : chronic or acute. Acute injuries have a rapid onset and can usually be tied to a specific event such as a fall, a bad tackle in a game of football or a car accident and include:

  • ankle sprain
  • muscle tear or rupture
  • whiplash

Chronic injuries develop over time and are associated with overuse and repetitive actions involving a particular muscle, group of muscles or ligaments and include:

  • achilles tendonitis
  • tennis elbow (common in office workers)
  • shin splints
  • carpal tunnel syndrome

Chronic overuse can lead to postural changes that are either a result of the overuse or contribute to the chronic pain.

Sports Therapy can help with these common problems:

    • work related injuries including repetitive strain and overuse injuries
    • postural issues
    • sports and soft tissue injuries
    • chronic neck and back pain
    • joint pain and mobility
    • improving flexibility
